Tarp extensions for Tensa4

(40 customer reviews)

$49.00

Tarp extensions for Tensa4 hammock stand let you pitch tarps higher, for more headroom. They also accommodate tarps with ridge lines longer than 11′, up to 13′ with gathered-end hammocks, for more complete coverage. Tarp extension instructions Jan 2023. The webbing/line tensioning assembly is now semi-permanently attached to the poles to allow greater range of adjustment.

You can use tarps with Tensa4 without anything extra, but these extensions give better results, for modest additional weight and bulk.

Extension set consists of two 19mm shock-corded 7000-series aluminum poles with end pegs, and two mounting assemblies made of grosgrain, LineLoc 3 tensioners, cordage, and hooks. A set fits inside the Tensa4 carry bag, about 12 ounces/340g.

It takes some fiddling, especially in the wind but works great once you get it dialed in.

I love my tensa stand and my tarp mods. I have used them every month since I purchased them. It takes away all of the hard decisions and I never have to deal in a tent when there are no trees. The system is lightweight and easy to transport. Wish I had it years ago!!! Very happy customer!

The tarp extensions working great and allow for easy use of my 12′ tarp. The only thing that would be nice is if was a better way to attach the strap to the bottom of pole. Snaps, maybe?

Added a slightly longer middle attachment line to get a bit more adjustment.

Thanks for your review. We need to do a better job on documentation. Would it have helped if the orange height adjuster line was pre-threaded onto the pole? The adjuster assembly used to be a loose piece. Connecting it semi-permanently to the pole (as we do now) helps in the end, but it requires people to fold the pole first to get the orange loop around it, which is not a hard puzzle, but a puzzle all the same. Our experience so far is that the more we explain things, the less people read 🙁

These things make the tensa4 complete. A bit fiddly as mentioned in previous posts. One thing that always bothered me is now fixed. I cut a M6 thread (1/4 inch probably ok too) to the short tip at the lower end and fixed the webbing/lines using a self locking nut. Fits perfect as if meant to be that way.

Note from Tensa (Sept 3, 2023): We have added a locking ring (first gen fix) or cap (current fix) to keep the lines on the poles. Glad you found an easy way to adapt yours.

Thanks. Since about March 2023, we’ve shipped all Tarp Extensions with the tensioner assembly fixed to the lower pin, for now using a split ring, but soon using a push-nut. This can present a small puzzle in threading the pole through the orange height adjuster loop, but just fold the pole first so it fits over the split. I ship them pre-threaded through.

I’m still learning how to optimize the use of the extensions with my tarp and the instructions for the extensions were a little less clear compared to the overall hammock stand instructions. I have found the tensioning system of the extensions to very easy to use and effective.

  37. Davide Giovanni Maria Salvetti (verified owner)

Once you grasp how to set them up, they are easy to adjust and buy you more comfort for your tarp.

  38. Michael V. (verified owner)

The tarp extensions are great. They allow me to use an over sized tarp and get the tarp up a bit higher so there is not so much bending over to get in the hammock.. There is a learning curve and a touch of the doodle factor to get them placed well but they work well overall and are well made.

I wanted to let you know about an accidental snafu with the tarp extenders and my tensa setup that has turned into something of a feature.
I love everything about this stand (when I can carry it!). I was set up at a music camp for a week, and it was luxuriously comfortable, even though it rained heavily several times. I had been careless setting up the tarp in my haste, and the rain knocked it off kilter, and the head end where I entered was tilted at about 45 degrees towards the zipper side of the hammock, thereby creating a MUCH bigger vestibule and not affecting the structure or dryness of the rest of the rig.
I plan to set up this way going forward, it was such an improvement over an already great space!
    Happy hanging!

  40. Simon Lever (verified owner)

Once you get the hang of setting these up, they increase the headroom and vestibule space a lot! More possibilities arise…
